The key is a special socket which gets attached to a regular lug wrench and only when perfectly fits the wheel lock can it be loosened or tightened. There are special wheel locks to prevent theft of the spare tire too. These work just like the regular lug nuts and bolt wheels to the vehicle. One in each wheel is usually installed while the remaining can be of the conventional type. These special lug nuts come in a variety of size and configuration for installation on most vehicles.
